GILLIAN LEIGH's painting is typified by her highly
finished surfaces. Process-based, her work employs a subtle use
of pattern arrived at through a gradual and extremely precise
method of paint application. The result is a smooth and delicate
surface that may reveal an impression of shimmering material,
emerging spiralling forms or blurred waves or points.
Intrigued by water and light and the movement that lies therein, Leigh alludes to that part of nature in her abstract works
through her fluid and almost monochromatic canvases. Relying
heavily on blues and greens the artist presents us with
consistent work that is both luxurious and resonant in its
finish and its effect.
