BENJAMIN TURNBULL makes monumental
acrylic paintings based on American film iconography. Drawing on
his obsessive interest in cult Americana Turnbull's
pop-influenced hard-edged works feature characters such as
Superman, Dirty Harry, Bruce Lee and Andy Warhol. These familiar
figures are placed within a visual framework informed by the
artist's own collections of junk and memorabilia, therefore
creating a personalised fusion of fictional character and
real-life consumer-culture information. The work overall is a
visual celebration and a representation of heroic Western
glamour.
