SAM LANYON JONES is a distinct
photographer who creates immaculate works of great technical
accomplishment. His urban and industrial landscapes are matt
sealed and mounted on aluminium with split batons to achieve a
minimal and contemporary finish.
Shot at night over long exposures, Jones' images attain a
heightened reality that is both eerie and sublime. Unpopulated
vistas reveal a stillness that is not achievable during typical
hours of waking life. Familiar industrial environments featuring
motorways, container yards, railways and airports are beautified
as we observe them from a removed and elevated viewpoint.
Indeed, they become almost model-like as the absence of daytime
signifiers creates an objectified landscape devoid of its usual
scale and purpose.
